WELCOME TO THE GARAGE
TorqueHappy is a record of the choices behind one Sierra. What went in, what worked, what didn’t—and what still needs figuring out. Pull up a chair. There’s a story behind every part.
A little obsession. A lot of heart.02 / HOW WE GOT HERE
Every build has a before and after.
The interesting part is in between.

EARLY 2026 / THE DETOUR
Recurring limp mode. An actuator replacement that didn’t solve it. Then a failed factory turbo. This part of the build started with finding a way forward.
The turbo story
SPRING–SUMMER 2026 / THE RESET
Black Widow Diesel’s diagnosis, the VSE replacement and supporting hardware, then matching VSE calibration. The owner reports that the recurring problem finally cleared.

ONGOING / THE DETAILS
The stance. The tires. A secondhand Retrax cover. Some decisions change how it drives; others change how it fits into everyday life. Each one belongs in the record.

03 / NOTES FROM THE GARAGE
Seven connected stories.
Honest about what we know—and what we don’t.
The original turbo needed replacement. That repair became the turning point for a VSE Stage 3 turbo, supporting airflow parts and a later change in tuning.
02PowertrainAn S&B airbox, a carbon-fiber PPE inlet pipe and a resonator replacement serve different places in the air path. Here is how they fit around the VSE turbo.
03ChassisThe rear setup changed before the build settled: the original 1.5-inch blocks were returned and replaced with a 2-inch kit.
04ChassisToyo Open Country A/T III tires in LT285/55R22 changed the truck’s proportions. The owner also felt a change in acceleration—and brought the tire size into the tuning conversation.
05CalibrationRepeated check-engine warnings, an $800 stock-flash quote, Black Widow Diesel’s diagnosis and the VSE turbo-and-tune combination that finally resolved my recurring problem.
06UtilityA nearly new Retrax T-80488, bought secondhand for $850. The useful story is the actual installation, the deal and what living with it reveals.
07PowertrainShop-installed alongside the turbo, the Fuel System Saver changes how fuel is filtered. Its role is supporting filtration—not an extra source of horsepower.
