Calculated from the size code, not measured on a mounted tire. Actual dimensions and rolling circumference vary with the tire and conditions. This comparison does not determine clearance, wheel compatibility, load capacity, pressure or speedometer calibration.

The numbers are
only the beginning.
The previous 275/50R22 size comes from the owner’s account. The installed Toyo Open Country A/T III LT285/55R22, load range E, is documented. The 4.6% nominal diameter increase gives scale to the change; it does not prove this truck’s actual clearance or driving outcome.
How the comparison is calculated
For a metric code such as 285/55R22, the first number is nominal section width in millimeters, the second is sidewall height as a percentage of width, and the last is wheel diameter in inches.
- Sidewall
- Width × aspect ratio ÷ 100
- Overall diameter
- Wheel diameter × 25.4 + two sidewalls
- Circumference
- Nominal diameter × π
- Diameter change
- (B diameter ÷ A diameter − 1) × 100
Both profiles use the same scale. The drawing illustrates size-code geometry, not tread, wheel design or a fitment recommendation. See Toyo’s sidewall guide and Tire Rack’s explanation of metric sizes.
